Summary

Right, time now for this week's Arsecast and to discuss the midweek 3-3 draw with Bournemouth I'm joined by Adrian Clarke – host of The Breakdown on arsenal.com. We discuss the performance, two games in 48 hours, the contribution and celebration of Olivier Giroud, a grumpy Alexis Sanchez and much more. After that I chat to Colm McMullan, creator of the StatsZone app which you can get for iOS and Android. We talk about making the app, the increased availability of stats and data in football, how it helps round out your view of a game or a performance and what we can learn from using it. There's a minimal amount of the usual waffle, but I hope you enjoy the show anyway.

Welcome to the show, welcome to the very first R-Scast of 2017.

0:33.8

That's right, it's a brand new year, a clean slate, a fresh start, a bowl of pasta that's been licked clean by the dog.

0:43.8

Or something, it is a brand new year though.

0:47.8

You've full of good intentions, gonna work harder, gonna be more productive, gonna be a better person, gonna get fit, gonna stay fit, gonna do that less,

0:56.8

gonna do that more, all of these things, January things, first few days of January things, and then it's like, pfft, can't be asked for any of that.

1:07.8

But look, I hope if you have made a New Year's resolution, that it, you stick with it, because people make them for good reasons, don't they?

1:14.8

It's true.

1:15.8

Last year, I completely failed in mine.

1:19.8

Only somebody reminded me on Twitter the other day.

1:23.8

They said, how did your New Year's resolution go last year, and I said, I'm not sure because I can't remember what it was.

1:31.8

But he reminded me of it, and it was to eat more grapes.

1:36.8

I had fewer grapes last year, than in any other year in my life I would say.

1:42.8

I wouldn't necessarily say my grape consumption itself went down.

1:47.8

But I was quite specific about eating grapes, and not consuming grapes in their liquid form, you know, when they come out of a nice bottle with a cork in them.

1:59.8

So I failed miserably, like Arsenal in the first 70 minutes against Bournemouth the other night miserably.

2:06.8

That's how bad it was, and that's why I've pretty much decided no New Year's resolutions.

2:12.8

I don't think so, apart from, you know, just to keep my desk tidy.

2:17.8

I really like it when my desk is tidy.

2:21.8

It's all like there, and everything looks good, and you look at your desk, and you go, I could sit down there, and I could work really hard.

2:28.8

Look, everything's tidy and neat, and there isn't papers everywhere, and there aren't notebooks and post-its and salatate dispensers and bottles of water, and all kinds of...

2:39.8

Maybe that's my New Year's resolutions, just keep a tidy or desk, because I feel you can do better work when you've got a tidy desk.
