Summary

I was introduced to Craig McPherson by a listener. He sent me a link to Craig's final video, one that served to represent a summary of his hike of the Appalachian Trail in 2016. It was arresting, to say the least. I've since sent this video to several friends who have been similarly moved and I can say with some authority that this is exactly how the trail feels. Interviewing Craig was just as riveting, for me. He was able to articulate several of the emotions that hit you during a thru-hike. I've also watched a number of his other updates and, together, they stitch together as good a representation of a thru-hike as I've seen. They certainly put my cinematic efforts to shame. If you'd like to see more of Craig's journey, just click on the link below and you'll be taken directly to his YouTube page.     If you'd like to connect directly to Craig, email him at athiker117@gmail.com     ***THERE IS A CURSE WORD IN MY READING FROM MY BOOK, SO BE PREPARED IF YOU LISTEN WITH CHILDREN***   Attie / Jessa continues to push forward, giving me less than full information on her somewhat lackluster attempt at the Half-Gallon Challenge. There's always a story behind the story! This is the last update for a couple of weeks. When we next hear from her it will be the middle of July.   I mentioned my "Last 10,000 Feet Challenge" in the show, which turns my John Muir Trail hike into a fundraiser for an organization very dear to my heart. If you'd like to learn more about the organization or, better yet, to donate to the cause of protecting children, click this link.

Hi and welcome back to the show.

This is episode number 41 and is the last one that I'm putting together before I go away

to the Appalachian Trail this weekend.

I know you're supposed to make podcasts timeless, but I keep having to remind myself which one I'm working on. Because I'm going to be away, I've been putting together the one for

0:46.8

next Thursday, July the 6th, and the one for the following week, July the 13th. This should

0:53.1

give me some time to put together the other podcasts for when I'm away in August.

0:57.3

I tell you, Glenn the Geek has really given me a task by insisting that I keep putting out shows every week,

1:03.3

even if I'm not around.

1:05.8

He says that I lose my audience and when I checked out a lot of the other podcasts and hiking and so on,

1:10.3

I think he has a point. So consistency is going to be my middle name, along with Henry and Arthur,

1:15.7

of course. This week, I've got a great guest and if I do say so myself, I think it is one of the

1:22.3

best interviews I've done and talking with Craig McPherson or Spielberg as he became known.

1:28.6

You know when you have a chat with somebody and you just get along?

1:31.5

Well, that happened as far as I'm concerned with Craig and me.

1:35.4

He may have thought I was a complete idiot.

1:38.3

We haven't met but I've learned so much about him through his YouTube channel that we got

1:42.0

into quite a bit of depth during our conversation.

1:44.9

He also came up with a brilliant articulation about the three phases of the hike.

1:49.8

I won't spoil it for you, but I'm sure that many of you will be nodding your heads in agreement when he says it.

1:55.8

As to his videos, all I can say is watch them.
