I'm your host, Dr. Dennis Kim.

We are at the 91st annual PCSA Pacific Coast Surgical Association meeting in

Carlsbad, California, and I'm really excited to host our inaugural guest on the show one Dr. Matt

Martin. Dr. Martin is an extensively published, an active trauma acute care surgeon, and one of the

leaders in our field. His research interests are diverse, ranging from the surgical

management of obesity to non-invasive hemodynamics and functional assessment of ICU patients. He's a

retired colonel with the U.S. Army and the current trauma research and education director in the

Department of Surgery at Scripps Mercy Medical Center. Prior to this, he completed a fellowship at LACUSC

and is the former trauma medical director and director of surgical research at Madigan Army

Medical Center. Matt holds numerous leadership positions on our key national and international

trauma professional organizations. And last summer, Matt was gracious enough to share some of his

hemorrhage control at our fifth annual Harbor UCLA Trauma Critical Care Conference.

And given how well received that was, I thought who better than Matt to have on as our first

guest. During the course of our interview, Matt and I will review some of the recommendations,

both in the pre-hospital

and in-hospital settings, as well as across the military and civilian sectors for both
