Summary

http://www.tropicalmba.com/adbadger/ Dan and Ian often speak on this podcast about how businesses and entrepreneurs evolve.

Today's guest, Michael Erikson, has certainly done that since the last time he spoke on this show. Michael's journey started, as many of ours do, staring at a blank Google search screen and typing in the words "How do I make money online?"

Several years later, Michael has spoken at several of the Dynamite Circle events. He was on this podcast last December, sharing his journey of building a 6 figure services business called Search Scientists.

Michael has recently started a new company called AdBadger, which is in essence a software version of his previous services company. On this week's show, you'll hear Michael share insight on how to do something that most services entrepreneurs dream of doing: selling a product.

Today's guest's journey and entrepreneurship started how many journeys start at a blank Google search screen.

Oh yes. And sometimes this goes well, sometimes not so much. But today's guest, Michael

0:47.1

Erickson, was once a teacher. And he decided one day to go to the internet and type in

0:53.7

how do I make money online?

0:55.8

Fast forward five or six years. And Michael's spoken at our events many times. He's been on this

1:01.1

show before talking about his journey, building a six-figure services business. So his business

1:06.5

search scientists was a product-tized service that did paid ad traffic services for

1:13.4

entrepreneurs. So we had him on the show in December, and recently he got my attention again

1:19.3

because he sponsored DC Austin. So I was like, something's going pretty good for Michael.

1:25.1

What's going on with this guy? So I called him up to talk

1:29.2

about that and it ended up just, we ended up hitting the record button to hear a little bit about

1:33.8

what I feel is an exciting transition he's making. Yeah, he started a new company and it's called

1:39.1

Ad Badger. Yeah. And in many ways, like Ad Badger is sort of a software version of what his service does.

1:46.8

I don't want to oversimplify it. I'll let Michael describe it. But part of the reason I thought this was so

1:51.4

fascinating is if I had a nickel for every services entrepreneur that I met that said to

1:56.2

themselves, man, I really like to build a product, you know? And the problem with that is it's hard just to

2:03.0

start with some of these more complex business models, Ian, you know? Like when you're the person

2:08.2

who's sitting at the Google search typing how to make money online, the right answer probably

2:13.1

isn't start a software startup. No, that's a very complicated answer.

2:19.9

But do you remember having these conversations when we started our first business, Dan,
