I became a certified, or certifiable, political junkie during the midterm elections of 1966.

In the 56 years since, I can't tell you how many times I've said or written that this

election, whatever year it was, is going to be the most significant of our lifetime. I never

thought it was hyperbole. They were indeed crucial elections. But my goodness, look at what's at stake in 2022.

Two completely different visions and priorities.

Republicans are talking about crime and inflation and the border.

Democrats are talking about abortion and guns and free elections.

The GOP says it's a referendum on Biden. No, say the Dems, it's a

referendum on Trump. The two parties are miles apart on nearly everything, and we haven't even

talked about election deniers and the sanctity of the vote. With a month to go before the election,

no one can say with any authority who's going to come out on top.
