Welcome to Emergency Medicine Cases.com. I'm your host, Dr. Anton Hellman, bringing you Canada's

brightest minds in emergency medicine from EMC Studios in Toronto. On this month's episode number 39, an update on trauma, pearls and pitfalls, we have the

triumphant return of Dave McKinnon and Mike Brzeowski. Dr. McKinnon is an emergency

physician and trauma team leader at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. He's also

the emergency medicine postgraduate coordinator at that site. He completed his residency training

at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. Dr. Brzeowski is an emergency physician and trauma

team leader at Sunny Brook Health Sciences Center in Toronto, where he's the Emergency Trauma Liaison

with the traumauma Program.

He completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Toronto in 1993 and trained

in Toronto, New York, Denver, Baltimore, and Perth, Australia, and the field of trauma.

Before we get into the episode, just a couple announcements. First, I'm very excited for the 27th annual

update in Emergency Medicine Conference in Whistler, British Columbia, February 23rd to 26, 2014,

just in a few months. I'll be giving two or three talks there. We're going to have an amazing

lineup of speakers. So many of the EM cases guest

experts are going to be there. David Carr, who did vascular emergencies and found down with us.

Jason Fisher, the pediatric ultrasound guru, who did the ultrasound episode with us. We'll have

George Perferis, who did the non-traumatic eye emergency episode with us. Shirley Lee, who did the emergencies in pregnancy episode with us. Claire Atzema, who did the atrial fibrillation episode with us. Joel Yaffe, who did the hot joints one with us. Lisa Thurger, who did the toxicology one with us. Doug St. Clair, who did the cognitive decision-making

and medical error one with us, Paul Hannam, who was also on the ultrasound episode. And finally,

Dr. Mike Bozowski, who's on this episode, will be with us there as well.

The second announcement I wanted to make is that EM cases has just formed a new advisory board

to help me out with future content and directions.
