Now, regardless of your opinion of the validity or applicability of this particular argument in this particular context,

there is a reason why abortion advocates have latched onto the phrase

my body my choice as their rallying cry. It's because that statement stripped of all of

the baggage that comes with it in that particular context represents a fundamental

inherent truth, one that we do not need to be taught, we know innately is the truth, namely that I have the claim to my body and what is done to it or what is not done to it.

And that is precisely why slavery is not just technically illegal.

It is morally outrageous.

It is a deplorable thing that we all understand to be wrong.

That's why rape is not just illegal, it is wrong. This is why a

kidnapping and assault and a battery and a whole host of other things are not just illegal but inherently wrong and we do not

need to be taught this we all naturally understand it. But we do not live in a world

of perfect moral reasoning or abstract philosophical

ponderings. We live in a world of law givers and courts and police. And in that world, your bodily autonomy, your body, your choice, no longer exists.
