Summary

On today's show, we have Nancy East, a retired veterinarian who is also an avid and accomplished hiker. Nancy is the perfect person to talk about dogs on the trail from a vet's perspective.

As somebody who know's literally zero on the subject, I turned to my good buddy, ChaptGPT, to help me out with my questions that seemed to cover the subject pretty well.

You can find more about Nancy's rich hiking life and hiking achievements by visiting her website at https://www.hopeandfeathertravels.com/

We also catch up with two of our still-running Mighty Blue class of 2023 team. Steve Nota and Joanne Flagg have been bang in the middle of the horrendous weather the New England states have been experiencing this week.

I also added a short piece about my son, Rob, pictured below.

If you'd like to find out more about "Then The Hail Came," check out George's website at https://georgesteffanos.webador.com/ . You can also find George's book on Amazon at this link. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09QFG4ZR6

I often ask listeners for ideas on who to interview, and I'm sure several of you say, "I could do that. I've got an awesome story to tell." You're the person we need to hear from. If you'd like to be interviewed on the podcast, just register as a guest on the link below, and I'll be in touch. Register as a Guest

Hey guys, it's me again, Mighty Blue or Steve Adams, and you found Mighty Blue on the Appalachian Trail, the ultimate midlife crisis.

As many of you know, we talk with hikers often about the Appalachian Trail, though not always, as well as people who hike and can contribute to our understanding of a particular topic on the trail.

A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I'd like to talk with a veterinarian who was also a hiker to inform us all about hiking with a dog from a vet's perspective. We all know people to say, my dog loves to hike, and well, we can't actually ask the dog its opinion on the subject, so I wanted to get the inside track, so to speak. Well, at Trail Days, I was in the author's tent right behind Nancy East, herself an accomplished

hiker, mountain rescuer, and crucially for this episode, a vet. She agreed to come on the show,

so I was kind of committed without knowing anything about the subject. So I guess where I

turned to for help? Yep, back to chat GPT. It came up with some pretty far-out questions, actually,

1:26.9

but I managed to distill some really good ones and put them to Nancy.

I had to reword them a bit, but they seem to cover the subject.

We'll hear from Nancy in a moment.

Then we catch up with just two of our class of 23 members, Steve Noda, our Bostonian from Down Under, and Joanne Flagg, our flip-flopper, already into Maine. They'll be on after

Nancy. Anne will have a shortened reading from then the hail came, as I have something

deeply personal to tell you, and I don't want the show to run too long again. So let's get to

it and introduce you to Nancy East. Today's guest is Nancy East.

2:03.0

She perfectly fits the bill of a hiker who happens to have been a veterinarian.

2:07.7

Hey, Nancy, thanks for coming on the show.

2:10.1

Yeah, thanks for having me, Steve.

2:12.0

You're no longer a veterinarian, is that right?

2:14.4

I am pretty much retired from, or I am retired from clinical practice in 2020.

2:20.5

I did that.

I still do a little bit of teaching with a community college for emergency service personnel
