Summary

We kick off 2014 with an hour of "the Robin Hood of modern crime" - The Saint.  Leslie Charteris' debonair detective premiered on American radio on January 6, 1945, and we're celebrating his anniversary with an extra-large episode.  Vincent Price stars as Simon Templar in "Greed Causes Murder" (originally aired on Mutual on August 14, 1949) and "The Case of the Previewed Crime" (originally aired on NBC on July 30, 1950).

We're kicking off 2014 with an hour

hour of one of radio's best sloths, Simon Templar, aka the saint.

We first heard Leslie Charters' debonair detective last year in June, and today we're celebrating

the anniversary of his American radio debut.

The Robin Hood of Modern Crime premiered on NBC on January 6th, 1945.

In that year there were two attempts to bring the character to radio.

The first series starred Edgar Barrier as Simon Templar, and

a second series starred Brian Ahern. But the saint found his biggest radio success in

1947 when Vincent Price took over the role and
