Hi, I'm Renee Hunter Vasquez. Hi, I'm John Paul Vasquez. This week, we're

broadcasting live from U.S. Outpost number 31 discussing the 1982 horror classic, The Thing.

This film was directed by horror icon John Carpenter off a screenplay by Bill Lancaster.

It is the second film adaptation of John W. Campbell's novella, Who Goes There?, sticking somewhat closer to the source material than the

1951 Howard Hawks adaptation, The Thing from Another World. Surprisingly, the film was initially released to poor critical and box office reception, but public opinion on the film has shifted over the decades.

With Carpenter's signature style, out-of-this-world special effects from

then-22-year-old Rob Boutin, fantastic performances from the cast, and a foreboding score by the

legendary Ennio Morricone, the film is now widely considered one of the best and most influential

in the horror genre. This film is by far our most recommended, and it was suggested to us by

friends of the show, Will Dunn, Chris Antevers, Fernando Dominguez, Michael Nuding, and Claire

film. Again, I know I always say that I can't really remember watching, like when I first,

first seen the movie, but I know I seen this movie a long time ago when I was younger

because I remember it scared the shit out of me.
