Brian Vargo came from a very good family, with his parents and siblings all being high achievers.

Brian was kind of an intellectual himself. He loved math formulas.

Brian was a hard worker and bought his first new car when he was only 18. He went to college and was on the dean's list.

However, there were some issues. Brian ended up wrecking that new car not long after he got it.

He spent 30 days in jail in the summer of 1975 due to marijuana possession, and his grades had started to dip at the University of Texas.

So, in March 1976, Brian had talked about taking a self-guided trip of Colorado during spring break.
