But their rationalist background gave way to irrational acts of violence, vengeance, and eventually death.

The thing about this group is you can't set yourself up, calling yourself a rational group,

and then act in irrational ways, because the jokes write themselves.

It's kind of like they doth protest too much.

If you have to say you're a rational group, chances are you're probably not a rational group.
