He's like the expert on Marvin Gay.

Jan is Marvin's second wife.

So where we left off, after a serious spell of depression, not only was the world changing in major ways, Marvin was still

reeling from the turmoil in his life, including the death of Tammy Terrell, that he would say

made him feel like he had died. He was very affected by this death. At Motown, Barry Gordy was all

in on Diana Ross, who had started her solo career, and had just discovered, in quotes, the Jackson Vive, which was bullshit, according to Marvin.

That did not happen. But Barry sold that story as an attempt to even further put Diana in this stratosphere.

So he's really trying to make Diana a crossover star.

They go to Hollywood in an attempt to make her into a major movie star.

And he kind of permanently moves there and starts setting up Motown Records recording studios

in L.A.

Some say Barry had left Detroit to escape a beef he was having with the mafia,

but according to Marvin, that wasn't true. Like many before him, Barry wanted to prove he could be

a big shot outside of his hometown. And this will begin a migration of Motown artists to L.A.,

something Marvin initially resist. He's kind of like, I'm the only real guy here.

Like, why are you guys all going?

They sell out, like, to L.A.
