Summary

Today's guest recently completed her AT thru-hike and, joyous as she is, she and Steve get into a conversation that celebrates the joy, but also delves into some of the more difficult, but ultimately triumphant, aspects of her journey and life.

Tonya shares her faith with us and the important role it played in her ability to get to the end of her hike.

Hi guys, and thanks for coming back to the show, and what is a very special day, both for the show and for me.

You're listening to Mighty Blue on the Appalachian Trail, the ultimate midlife crisis, and I am Steve Adams or Mighty Blue.

0:46.1

We can start with why it's special for the show.

0:49.2

We started this little podcast just over six years ago in September 2016, when I produced it mainly to advertise my new

0:56.3

Appalachian Trail books that I just published. The idea was to interview somebody in the

1:01.0

hiking world and then to read a chapter of the book, thus building a slow audio book that

1:05.7

people may want to go out and buy before I reached the end. That kind of worked, as I've sold quite a few over the years.

1:12.0

I also started a bit of a thing for the show and have read several great books since I've

1:16.4

finished my own. Let's face it, after 340-odd episodes, I was bound to get through quite a few

1:21.1

books.

1:22.4

Anyway, that little old show eventually took off and grew to the extent that today, October the 27th, 2022,

1:29.7

we are going to hit the magic mark of 2 million downloads since those early days.

1:35.2

Now I know that because as I'm putting the show together on Wednesday evening,

1:39.9

we are within just 1,300 downloads of 2 million.

1:43.8

Every Thursday we get between 2,000 and 2.5,000

1:46.8

downloads, so we're there, probably around midday. Many of our downloads each day are from

1:53.0

back episodes and I often hear from listeners that they've been listening from the beginning,

1:57.1

which is great. So I thank all of you who stuck with us on this journey,
