Koki Roberts was a colleague, a friend and a respected journalist and author. I've known her

personally since she began covering Capitol Hill for National Public Radio in 1978.

Koki passed away this week at the age of 75 from complications involving breast cancer.

I will miss her as I think virtually everybody who cares about civility and decency in Washington

will miss Koki. She was born Mary Martha Corinne Morrison Claiborne Boggs. Even by New Orleans

that is quite a name. She was born back on December 27th 1943. With all those names she got the name

Koki from her older brother because he couldn't pronounce Corinne and he dubbed her Koki and it's stuck.

Her parents were members of Congress. Hail Boggs was the Democratic whip tragically lost in

the airplane crash in Alaska. He was succeeded in Congress by Lindy Boggs' wife. Koki is survived by

her husband of 53 years, journalist, author and professor Steve Roberts, her children, Lee Roberts

and Rebecca Roberts and her six grandchildren. Koki was first and foremost a wife, mother, sister,

daughter and cousin and friend. And then she was a great career newsperson who really helped shape
