Summary

The remarkable Arlette Laan is this week's guest. Arlette recently completed the eleventh and final leg of her quest to hike all the National Scenic Trails, becoming the first woman to do so. She's not a super-honed athlete, she's a down-to-earth woman who knows her strengths and limitations, and hikes accordingly.

When she's not hiking these long-distance trails, Arlette leads hikes in New Hampshire and has shared with us the epic photo below.

0:42.4	As many of you probably know, last week I missed an episode of the show for the first time in my nearly six years of doing it.
0:49.9	And first, by the way, I want to thank the very many of you who inquired after my health
0:54.9	these past two weeks. It's been very humbling and good to know that you were thinking
0:59.1	about me or praying for me. What actually happened was that I was driving around a couple
1:03.6	of thursdays ago when I felt a tightening in my chest. I'd bought an Apple watch the weekend
1:09.1	before and checking my heart rate on the watch.
1:12.0	I was a touch alarm to that my rate had increased from its normal standing rate of about
1:16.3	68 to 72, 73, but it was now 183 or 184. I didn't really know what to do or what it even meant.
1:27.3	By carillon driving and for the next
1:29.1	40 or so minutes, the rate hovered between that early 183 or so and about 165.
1:36.2	It wasn't any real pain, but the tightness across my chest was there. So I drove home and I thought
1:41.8	I'd just sleep it off. I was actually in my community, only about 100 yards from home,
1:46.6	when I stopped the car and I called my doctor.
1:49.4	At that time, the rate was around 175.
1:52.5	The doctor told me to drive immediately to the emergency room, so that's what I did.
1:57.0	By the time I got there, I was struggling.
