Their legally dubious beliefs land them in police crosshairs,

and their manipulation of the legal system often nets negative results.

But various groups of these extremists all agree on one thing.

The laws don't apply to them.

Are their claims rooted in anything legitimate,

or are they all being wildly misled by unscrupulous snake oil salesmen?

This week's episode is the Sovereign Citizen Movement.

A bump in the night, your heart fills with dread, probably a murder of who wants you dead.

It could be a ghost, a demon or worse. Perhaps you're the victim

of a witch's curse. It's hopeless, you're doomed, you'd call a priest if you could. You'd rather

just listen to who? Sinisterhood I'm going to kill you.

Well, we had several requests for this for a while for it popping up in multiple

past cases.

It seems extra topical right now, given the state of the hellscape that is the United States right now.

I was like, maybe the law doesn't apply to any of us.

It sounds like I might become a sovereign citizen.

And by that, I just mean I stay in my house.

I don't involve myself with law enforcement or try and sue the courts or anything like that. I just don't want all of the bullshit that's happening to apply to me.

I'm independent. I remember the first time I ever heard of anything like this was on Mr. Show way back when. And there's a bit where David Cross plays like a new freelander. And he's like, get off my land. And the FBI comes up and is like, that's fine.

We've decided you're your own country.

You can just have it.

And then they leave.
