Aaron is the designer and maker behind cotton and fl flax a collection of handmade textile

home goods. We chat with Aaron about surface pattern design, screen printing, and

sustainability as a creative entrepreneur and how she does everything herself.

To start us off, can you introduce yourself to our listeners? Sure, yeah, absolutely. My

name's Aaron Dollar and I run a textile home decor business called Cotton and Plaques.

I'm down in San Diego, California and I have a little studio that's sort of a makeshift textile factory. I buy fabrics raw and then I do all the

silk screen printing for every product myself so it's like a one woman print

factory where I'm just sort of individually by the piece printing these

different pattern fabrics and then sewing them into tea towels making some

coasters throw pillows all sorts of things for just sort of a beautiful minimalist home.

And recently I've been sort of stretching my surface pattern design muscle by working with a company called Robert Kaufman to design yardage of fabric for their company.

So that got released last year.

My first collection with them was called Arroyo.

And I was super excited to see how quilters and garment sewers were going to take this fabric and make it their own.

It's a lot of the patterns that you might recognize from the Cotton and Flax collections that I've released in the past,

but I sort of scaled down for craft quilting and fashion design stuff so it's been really fun to see that kind of take on a life of its own.
