Yours truly, Johnny Deller. the Hello and welcome to down these mean streets and more old-time radio private eyes and

crime solvers. This week we're catching up with Mike Waring, known on both

sides of the law as the Falcon. In the early years of his radio program the Falcon

was described as always ready with a hand for

oppressed men and an eye for repressed women and he was equal parts hard-boiled

gumshoe and suave ladies man. Unfortunately for wearing his work

usually kept him too busy for dates. Each episode kicked off with the Falcon

breaking a date as he headed into a new case. The Adventures of the

Falcon aired on radio from 1943 to 1954. Coming on the heels of several popular stories and novels and a film series that

starred George Sanders and Tom Conway. Most of the surviving episodes we have today come from Les Damon's tenure in the title role.

Damon was a radio pro whose roles included Nick Charles on the Adventures of the Thin Man and insurance investigator

Pat Abbott in Adventures of the Abbots.

Damon was wearing the Falcon's Trenchcoat from 1950 until 1953, including a stretch of episodes where the

character traded his private eye beat for international intrigue as an intelligence agent

for Uncle Sam.
