Summary

Today, we catch up with ALL (available) members of the Mighty Blue Class of 2022. Having been away for more than five weeks, I've missed their starts–in many cases–and the suspension of their hikes–in a few cases.

One thing that is apparent from these conversations is that nobody's experience is like any other hiker's experience.

The conversations speak for themselves and, going forward, I want you all to know who we're following out there. Each of the interviews is time stamped to allow you to jump to your favorite.

1:50 - Dave Burge

15:52 - Chuck Hays

26:26 - Sarah Landis

36:57 - Hugh and Kerry Ickrath

52:30 - Daniel Whitesides

1:10:43 - Barry Hill - No pic

1:18:13 - Joanne Birditt - No pic

1:29:08 - Kera, Ryan, and Brittaney

Hi everybody, it's me again. Steve Adams saw Mighty Blue,

0:55.9

and you are listening once more to Mighty Blue on the Appalachian Trail, the ultimate middle-life crisis. As many of you know, I've been out of the US having a blast in the UK for about five weeks. At the end of my trip, I tacked on a hike of the West Highland Way, a 96-mile saunter, as it turned out, through the mountains and valleys of Scotland between Milne Garvey, or Milgai, as they apparently say, and Fort William.

1:03.5

It was awesome, and in fact, I'm going to be devoting next week's show to that hike.

1:08.0

But today, I've caught up with all but one of our Mighty Blue Class of 2022. If you recall, several of that group's members hadn't actually started when I left the US, so today we're going to get up to date with their very, very successes and failures. Each one of them has a story to tell, so I spent about 10 minutes with each of them. I may finish this week with a prologue to our new book reading,

1:29.1

but I'll talk about that later.

1:30.6

So let's get on and catch up with somebody who was described as a beast of a hiker

1:34.4

by one of our other class members.

1:36.8

When we last spoke with him, Dave Burge was heading north at quite a pace.

1:40.6

He started on 31st of December last year.

1:44.6

Let's hear what's happened to Dave.

1:49.7

Hello.

1:50.7

Hey Dave, Steve Adams.

1:52.4

Hey, Mighty Blue, how are you doing?

1:54.3

Well, I'm sorry I was so late.

1:56.4

I just haven't used my computer for about five weeks

1:58.6

and it needed all starting up and everything.

2:00.8

Some settings seem to have changed.

2:03.4

So, yeah.

2:04.1

So, yeah, I'm back in, back into it straight away, which I always tend to do when I get back.
