Well look there's a widely held belief here that the government is not going to shut

down the question is as it often is,

before these deadlines, how Congress actually

averts it.

At this point, what we're watching the newly minted speaker,

Mike Johnson, try to do is a little bit

of what we've seen in the past which is continuing

to fund the government through a certain date.

In this case you're right to point out that it's through January and then into February.

And the reason it's split in two is because he's trying to do

something that's kind of the same same but different than what his predecessors

have done which is fund the government but not do so in sweeping continuing resolution fashion not just kicking the can sweeping continuing resolution fashion,

not just kicking the can down the road in full.

Instead, acknowledging all of the different parts of his conference

that are averse to what we call

Omni-Bibus spending bills.

So all of these different funding bills jammed together into one.

What Johnson is doing here is splitting them up into two,

trying to make them mini buses if you will they're calling this

a laddered continuing resolution but really all that is is a two-step approach
