All right, folks, welcome back to another episode of the Human Performance Outliers podcast.

0:14.4

I'm your host, Zach Bitter, and today I have a guest interview for you.

0:18.7

Today's guest is Boyd Myers.

0:24.0

Boyd is what I'm calling a spontaneous endurance athlete, meaning he is sort of the opposite of kind of how I go about training for these

0:31.6

events in the sense where I like to pick an event that's, you know, quite a bit down the road

0:35.4

and maybe pick some tune up events and really

0:37.7

outline exactly what I'm going to do between the day I start structured training and getting

0:44.4

to that event. Boyd sort of randomly jumps into things, whether it be a spontaneous 100-mile race

0:50.9

or something he is about to do, which is he's going to run a full Ironman

0:55.9

one day followed by a half Ironman the next day over the course of a weekend in Waco, Texas,

1:02.1

as part of the Gold Star Initiative, which we talk about in the podcast.

1:08.5

You know, Boyd has an interesting background.

1:10.3

He was an Air Force vet, former bodybuilder.

1:13.1

He actually opened up a gym and had some success with that for, I believe, if I remember

1:18.0

correctly, nearly a decade. But he ended up selling that and then transitioning in his career,

1:24.9

which resulted in him gaining like 75 pounds, which he decided

1:28.6

was unwanted weight. And that's kind of what spurred his interest in triathlons and running

1:34.2

and all the stuff he's up to nowadays. One of the other reason I want to talk to Boyd was what

1:40.5

I mentioned before is that gold star initiative initiative which is a process where you carry a

1:46.2

flag for the running portion of a full iron man and half iron man on those back to back days so he got

1:52.4

asked to do that and he'll be carrying that flag during the run portion of the iron man waco full and
