Summary

Why can we have hope in the middle of calamitous situations? Because God is good, He is faithful and He acts. In this episode, Fr. John and Mary look at the disaster that had befallen Israel at the time of Baruch, how God rescued them, and what that has to say to us here and now.

Hey, everybody. Welcome to you were born for this podcast with Father John Ricardo, Mary Guilfoyle.

0:06.5

We're a couple of missionaries at Acts 29. And this is the podcast where we talk about how acquiring a biblical worldview brings us great hope.

0:16.8

Hope and the God who created and rescued this world in order that you and I can be agents of

0:21.6

transformation and recreation. Mary, that word, hope is so much what Advent is all about.

0:29.1

And I don't know about you, but I'm thinking of a whole set of people who maybe are listening,

0:35.1

maybe not, but who are very much present in my prayers who are

0:38.0

urgently in need of hope. I would argue, Father John, that we're all in need of hope, like

0:42.2

I'm in need of hope. And I was just listening to you, like, you know, just that introduction

0:46.5

that you make every week. And there is such truth, and there is such an anointing on that,

0:52.8

but I heard it today for the first time with

0:55.0

new ears. I think in light of what it is, God's inviting us to unpack today. So praise

1:00.8

God for that. And the Word of God is always fresh and it's always timely and it's always very

1:05.1

personal. So mindful of that, what is the topic of our episode? God is the subject of the verb. How's that for you?

1:14.9

English majors out there. God is the subject of the verb. I'm picturing diagramming this sentence back on my days in grade school.

1:23.6

All right, let's pray. The name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

1:27.8

Gracious Father, we do thank you for this extraordinary season that we're in right now.

1:33.4

It's time to reflect again upon what it is that you have done and what it is that you will do.

1:42.5

We ask for your Holy Spirit to be upon us, and especially to be with those of our

1:47.1

brothers and sisters who you alone perhaps know most need to hear your encouragement and

1:54.9

exhortation this week who feel desperate for a word of hope. So come and speak to them as only you can and help us to be

2:06.1

docile and pliable instruments in your hands. We ask all this in Jesus' name. Amen. In the name of

2:12.2

the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. So our first reading for this coming Sunday comes from Baruch.
