Summary

During his childhood, Alec experienced a peculiar phenomenon where he would find himself outside of his own body at night. Upon awakening, he would observe his sleeping form before embarking on a journey to explore his own home. Initially, this activity was enjoyable, but he was apprehensive about entering a specific area of the downstairs, sensing an ominous presence beckoning him towards it. Eventually, he mustered the courage to venture into that area, only to be tormented by an entity for several hours, a haunting experience that persisted into his teenage years. Alec now believes the entity that tormented him in his childhood was The Night Hag, or The Old Hag. This is a supernatural creature that shows up in almost every country and culture around the world, going back very far into history. In fact, the word nightmare even comes from folklore about this entity! Part 2 of this episode is available on the Otherworld Patreon. To listen, go to www.patreon.com/otherworld In part 2, I am joined by Josh Citarella to dive into the research that exists on this phenomena and the deaths connected to it. We look at the many instances this thing appears around the world and through history. Its a really crazy thing to explore and I think you are really going to enjoy! Welcome to other world. I'm your host Jack Wagner. I'm very excited for today's episode

0:09.2

because it begins to dive into a topic that I've heard a lot about and it's something

0:15.7

that has been experienced all over the world through many different cultures. I'll let

0:21.1

our guests explain exactly what it is, but things like this really fascinate me. If you've

0:27.0

heard episodes 3 and 4, the man in the hat, you know all about the hat man. And when I put

0:33.8

those episodes out, I was well aware that lots of people have seen this thing, but I truly

0:39.7

could not believe how many people ended up reaching out to me saying that they had also

0:45.2

seen the hat man. And I'm not talking about listeners. Friends and family members of mine

0:50.9

were calling me to confess that they had also seen the hat man. And they didn't even

0:56.4

know it was a thing. It honestly became very overwhelming to be hearing all of these

1:02.4

stories. And I can show you that one day we will be coming back to that topic, but I bring

1:09.8

all of that up just to say that even the weirdest things that we discuss on this show are

1:16.1

often much, much more common than we even think. Today's episode is not about the hat man,

1:22.3

it's about something else. And this story comes from a man in North Carolina named Alec.

1:29.3

And as a child, Alec started to have very strange dreams that blur the line between sleep

1:36.6

paralysis and real life. And honestly, I even hesitate to use the word dream. And I think

1:41.6

you'll know why after you hear this. Now, he uses the term sleep paralysis, but sleep

1:48.2

paralysis generally only lasts for a couple of minutes. And I think when you hear Alec's

1:54.2

full story, you'll agree with me when I say that. This sounds very different than anything

2:00.9

that I've ever heard about sleep paralysis. This is a very complicated story, so I think

2:07.8

we should get started. This is episode 31. The title is The Nighthag Part 1, and you're

2:14.7

listening to Otherworld.
