Summary

This week is our 300th episode, and we're doing something a little different, including minimal show notes!!

Every guest we've had in the past has shared their impressions, their stories, and the lessons they've learned. For this special show, I've put together nine short conversations with people who've been on the show or who I've hiked with. I was asking for just one lesson they've picked up from the trail. Their different takes were illuminating.

The conversations are with Tee Bird and Lighterknot, from my 2014 hike.

Pony, who joined me on the podcast and on my 2019 thru-hike.

Dixie, who I podcasted with as she took on the CDT in 2018, and who has become a friend of mine over the years.

Then, there are my podcast colleagues on the network; Anna, Jester, and Courtney.

Finally, we'll talk with my two hiking partners from 2019, Trigger and Cushy.

When they've had their say, I give you a few thoughts of my own. I hope you enjoy this very different show.

Hi guys, and as I warned you last week, well, this is Mighty Blue on the Appalachian Trail,

0:38.6

the ultimate midlife crisis, today is the 300th episode, and for once I wanted to try

0:44.3

something entirely different from our usual episode. So for one week only, you'll be hearing

0:49.0

from nine of my hiking friends, some of whom I've hiked with and some of whom I've only met

0:53.1

on the podcast.

0:59.8

I mean, all our guests on our regular show speak of things that have changed their lives.

1:04.5

So this week, I wanted to focus on one life lesson that my guests have discovered.

1:10.3

It didn't quite work out as one lesson sometimes, but I have short chats with them all and try to tease something that

1:11.7

they've taken with them from their time on the trail. There's no middle section, no book reading,

1:16.7

all of that resumes next week. Think of this as me stopping, sit on a rock somewhere up a mountain

1:22.6

and chatting with my friends as they hike towards me, sit a while and move on.

1:31.1

And I've very deliberately chosen this order in which to speak with them.

1:35.6

First up is a woman I met back on my 2014 through hike.

1:40.2

She and I finished the trial together along with two others, but I met this lady first.

1:44.5

She was hiking with another couple, but we hikes around each other for a couple of weeks,

1:47.3

maybe even a month before teaming up as we hit New Hampshire.

1:49.9

This is Petcoat or Teabird.

1:59.3

Right now we've got probably one of the people who I've stayed friends with over the years.

2:01.1

One of the first people I met on the trail,

2:03.4

which is this is Petco or Teabird.
