Hello and welcome to our third reading of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Just kidding, this is episode three of the panpsychas, where we'll be focusing on dualism and materialism.

We'll be looking specifically at how dualism and materialism respond to the mind-body problem.

The mind-body problem is the problem of explaining how mental state,

events and processes, like thinking, are related to physical states, events and processes,

given that the human body is a physical entity and the mind is a non-physical entity.

As we are focusing on OCR's A-level, dualism will be our primary ontological view under the microscope today.

There are various branches within dualism, but dualism can loosely be defined as the view which proposes mind and matter are separate in some way.

So we will be looking at Plato and Aristotle's views on the soul in part one and René Descartes' Cartesian dualism in part two. In part three, we shall be opposing dualism through

materialism, the view that only material properties exist. The end of the show, in part

four, we're going to unwind with an open discussion on both metaphysical theories. We're also
