Do Oscars Matter?

Boy, this is a tough one.

I say yes and no.

But our good friend Danny Perry has a certain opinion.

And he actually wrote a book, which I highly recommend our listeners check out, called Alternate Oscars.

I think it came out circa 1992, and he basically went through...

I'm going to read the intro paragraph here in a second,

but basically the gist of the book is that he went through all the Oscars that were given out

from the first ceremony up through when the book came out,

and he basically said, okay, here's what won,

and here's what I think should have won.

And basically almost never was, you know, well, you know what, I feel like there's an occasion

where he was like, okay, they got this one thing right, you know, this year.

But in general, he was very down on it.

And so let me just read what he had to say to sort of set up the idea of kind of the

beginning of this episode, more or less. But he says, the first Academy Awards were given out

in 1929. In my view, they got it wrong then, and with few exceptions, they have gotten it wrong
