Billy Honor of the New Georgia Project, a voter registration effort founded by Stacey Abrams, weighs in on whether the Democratic Party can convince Georgia voters to go to the polls after reneging on so many of the promises that motivated voters back in 2020. What has he been hearing from voters on the ground, and what is the role of voter advocacy orgs in pushing voters, in this case, largely Black and lower income voters, toward candidates that actually reflect their interests. What if their interests align more with, say Cornel West than Joe Biden?

So, what a way to reach out was there has been a lot of chatter both in written news media and

1:13.6

on shows like MSNBC and CNN about a growing concern about what Joe Biden faces, particularly

1:20.0

with black voters, particularly with black male voters as he faces down 2024. And this conversation

1:27.3

seems to have been exacerbated in part because of Cornell West entry into the race,

1:32.2

the perception being that unlike some other potential third party or green party candidates,

pose a real issue for the Democrats as they head into 2024. In particular, I noticed one commentator

in a clip that has been doing the rounds around the left mentioned new Georgia project and that

people that she spoke to with your organization were expressing concern that as they were knocking

doors and trying to get off the boat the way that they did back in 2020, they're just not getting

2:05.2

the same level of enthusiasm that they had hoped. Joe Biden became the first Democrat to win a presidential

2:12.9

election in Georgia since 1992 when he won in 2020 and just to show how crucial black voters were

2:20.8

to that win by our calculations, if less than 1% of black voters stayed home or voted for Trump,

the outcome of the selection could have been very different. And basically, something that we heard

on the ground from the director of organizer from the New Georgia project, which is
