An Academy Award nominee and two-time Grammy nominee, Stephen Bishop was born in San Diego, California in

1951. He formed a band called Weeds while still in high school and

subsequently spent several years working in a publishing house where he wrote songs for the likes of

Shaka Khan, the Four Tops and Barbara Strizand. He spent a few years looking for a

recording contract as an artist before finally being discovered by Argar Funkel.

He contributed the songs

Looking for the Right One and Same Old Tears on a new background to our gold certified album

Breakaway in 1975. As a result of this success he was able to sign with ABC and went on to record and release his debut album

Careless 1976 which was nominated for a Grammy and Spawn Chart singles like On and On

which went to Number 11 in the US and

also save it for a rainy day. He often has great guests on his albums too doesn't he?

Yeah I mean people like Argy fun call, Sheckerel, Sheckerel, Steve Cropper, Phil Collins drops in.

Clapton as well.

Yeah.

And Phil Collins of course famously recorded Stephen Bishop's song Separate Lives for the soundtrack to White
