0:49.1	Even before the conquest of Singapore was over, on February 15th,
0:53.3	the Japanese were already making plans for their next target, Sumatra,
0:58.9	just off the southern coast of the Malay Peninsula.

1:08.2	When the Japanese invaded, there were some 2.3 million people on the main island
1:14.0	and the smaller islands around it.
1:16.4	There were 6,000 Dutch and other Europeans,
1:19.6	140,000 Chinese and 13,000 other Asians.
1:24.8	And unlike the other islands in the area, like Borneo,
