I'd like to focus on Abraham Lincoln and the Constitution today. When I wrote my nine

presidents who screwed up America and four who tried to save her, one of the chapters focused on

Abraham Lincoln, and it was by far the most controversial chapter in the book. Now, the left

liked to rip apart my chapter on Franklin Roosevelt or Lyndon Johnson or Harry Truman,

some of the other very strong executives of the 20th century.

And as I talked about in the last podcast, you know, Franklin Roosevelt really is, his administration

really is a watershed administration in American history because we're living

in the aftermath of that and we still haven't left a wartime footing either militarily or economically.

But Lincoln's chapter was one that people on the left and the right picked up on and heavily criticized. How can you say

Abraham Lincoln screwed up America when he saved the union? Well, of course, the point of the book

is not the outcome of the policies or the policies themselves, generally. It's how they upheld their oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution
