Okay, Kalina. Let's start by defining what autism spectrum disorder or ASD is.

ASD is characterized by difficulty with social communication and restricted repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities.

In 2013, the DSM-5 grouped several diagnoses which used to be considered separate conditions all under ASD, including autistic disorder, Asperger syndrome,

childhood disintegrative disorder, and pervasive developmental disorder, NOS.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has estimated the prevalence for ASD as one
