Each has a choice. Stay silent or portray the other. If both stay quiet, they get off easy. But if one flips, the snitch walks and the other takes the fall. Mathematically, silence is their best mutual option. But because neither knows what the other will do, self-interest takes over, and the smart move is to betray them before they betray you.

But here's a twist most people don't consider. What if both suspects are actually innocent?
