Today's episode is episode 277, and yes, it continues the Bobby Baker series.

And today we have one of those episodes that perhaps you've been waiting for from the very beginning,

because we're going to talk about

Don Reynolds. And this may take more than one episode to finish, but it'll be worth it, I guarantee.

No doubt about it, Bobby Baker was a good old boy from the South. So don't be fooled by the slow

and the rhythmic Southern draw in his voice or his

charm in manas or his simple talk. You see, all of that often cloaks are pretty sophisticated

and razor sharp mind. I know, as I spent much of my early years around folks who fit that bill.

And that was Bobby Baker. Now, one of the ironies,

or perhaps maybe a moment of poetic justice in this Bobby Baker story, is the fact that his

downfall was caused by a couple of good old boys from his home state of South Carolina.

Maybe they all had lost the complete southern draw to one degree or another. You know,

circumstances dictate that, being in Washington and all, but they were still good old boys

from South Carolina. Now, we've already mentioned Ralph Hill, and if you don't go very deep in

the story, you think it was Ralph Hill who triggered all of this. But it was, in fact, Don Reynolds.

At the time of the scandal, Reynolds was a resident of Maryland, but he originally hailed from the

great state of South Carolina, as I just mentioned. Yes, it was two fellow South

Carolinians who would eventually be integral in taking Bobby Baker down. Long before the scandal broke, Reynolds had a longstanding relationship with Baker, and we'll

get into that momentarily, but it was Reynolds who somehow would come into contact with Ralph Hill,
