the fall of Singapore. Last time at 8.15am on the last day of the first month of the new year,

the last of the British led troops crossed over the causeway onto Singapore Island. There was no

panic and no one ran. If anything it was a well executed retreat but a retreat nonetheless.

This was all that was left of the allied territory of the Malayan campaign.

For the British to drag this out victory on any scale seemed impossible at this point.

What was needed was a steady stream of men, material and planes coming to Singapore.

Yet that was hardly a simple affair as the enemy was coming to control more and more of the skies

and sea lanes around the lone British holdout. As for the incoming airpower, their focus had been

uncovering the convoys on route and those recently arrived. Still some nighttime raids were

attempted on Japanese controlled airfields such as at Kuala Lumpur and Quantan on the east coast.
