As we get going today, permit me just for a second to tell a quick story, and that's going to lead us into the discussion that we need to have.

When you look back on Georgia's first national championship under Kirby Smart in 2021, I think there's an aspect of that team and its success that year that I don't think has been properly appreciated.

It's no doubt been talked about, but I don't think it's been fully understood, at least based

on my read of the situation, talking to people who are perhaps closer to this than me,

how instrumental one particular thing that Georgia chose to do that year. Obviously, what can be

forgotten, you know, after time, and we're coming up on the five-year anniversary of the

2021 national championship, what gets forgotten a little bit is how much that college football

season existed within the larger story of still really

in a COVID world in 2021. For instance, if you were lucky enough to go to the Georgia Clemson game

to kick off that 2021 season, you may remember it. I know it was true for me. That was the first

large scale gathering I had been a

part of in more than a year. We had had year plus of can't be in large crowds. Whatever you think

about all of that, the facts were most people were not getting together in very large crowds,

you know, 80 some thousand people for a football game, for instance.

Clemson, to begin the 2021 season, was the first thing we had done like that in a good while,

most of us.

And you were still living in the shadow of whatever that COVID thing was.

You were still living in the shadow of that when it comes to the kickoff the 24-1 season.
