Summary

Lauren sits down with voice actor and romantic/erotic audio narrator Dianna Conley, who identifies as bi/pansexual ("I saw The Mummy, and my answer was 'yes'"), agender, and neurospicy! Dianna's first kiss with a girl was in high school, but since she knew she was definitely attracted to boys, she was left more confused by the experience than anything else. That is, until she learned the word "bisexual" from a formative character on The O.C.! Dianna shares how, for her, "all clothes are a costume," and explains why "being ADHD is more important to my identity than having a gender." Plus, Lauren and Dianna - who met in a COVID-conscious Zoom group - discuss how the ongoing pandemic is very much a queer issue, and have a personal and candid conversation about why they are still taking the level of precaution they are.

Whole lotta stuff here, so buckle up! First off, follow Dianna on Instagram at @diannaconley and on Twitter at @DiannaConleyVO, and get in touch with her via her website at diannaconley.com. Also mentioned in this episode, former guest Jessica Ellis (Episode 144) is tweeting very openly about her journey with Long COVID at @baddestmamajama (you can search her profile page for "Long COVID" to turn up tweets).

In terms of all the COVID-related information we discussed, here's an easy to digest, super-thorough primer full of resources and links: https://www.patreon.com/posts/86871700?utm_campaign=postshare_fan. If you're interested in meeting other folks who are #stillcoviding, the "Still Coviding Weekly Hangout" (@covidisntover on Twitter and Instagram) is a virtual, international, and very queer-leaning group, and you can also check out covidmeetups.com. Last but not least, if you'd like to personally ask Lauren about any of the things discussed in this episode, please don't hesitate to reach out at comingoutpod@gmail.com!

Oh, hey, y'all. It's Lauren. So today's episode is really personal for me, and it's something that I

0:06.8

haven't really talked about on the pot before. As you probably know, if you follow me on Twitter,

0:12.1

I am still very COVID-conscious in the way I'm living my day-to-day life. And my guest today is my friend

0:19.5

Diana, who I met in a COVID-conscious Zoom group.

0:23.0

So after Diana tells her coming out story, she and I segue into talking about how COVID safety

0:28.2

is very much a queer issue. And then we move on to talking about COVID just more generally

0:32.9

and explaining why we take the precautions we do and stuff like that. And now Diana and I are two

0:39.0

people who read about this and talk about it a lot. So we pretty much hit the ground running in our

0:43.9

discussion. But it occurred to me that it was probably a good idea to just lay out some just very

0:50.8

basic facts here up top because we actually know a lot more about COVID than we did

0:56.1

three years ago. But unlike in 2020, when it was all over the news, there is unfortunately

1:01.3

way less information being put out there right now. And you really kind of have to go out of your

1:06.7

way to access it. So even if you take nothing else away from this episode, I would love for you

1:14.4

to know the following facts. COVID is spread by aerosols, not droplets, as we previously thought.

1:22.1

And so in terms of aerosols, a great way to think of it is like how cigarette smoke moves

1:27.4

through the air.

1:28.6

Current variants are transmissible outdoors. Outdoors is always better than indoors, yes,

1:34.3

but COVID has, the virus has mutated so much and it's become so contagious that, yes, you can

1:41.6

catch COVID outside. This is a big thing and definitely the biggest point for me personally.

1:49.0

So the thing to be concerned about with COVID is not so much the acute period of infection.

1:54.0

So in other words, not like the seven to ten days that you are quote unquote sick.

1:59.0

It's post-infection complications or long COVID. So in other words,
