Hello, everyone, and welcome back to the podcast. Today's episode is episode 261, and yes, it's yet another continuing episode in the Billy Saul-S-Ds series. We're getting close to the end,

and let me tell you, some of the best has been held for last. Today's episode goes deep into some of the more darker aspects of what happened as a result

of the SD's affair. I'm not talking about financial fraud. I'm not talking about somebody going to

jail for committing a financial crime. I'm talking about murder. And I'm not talking about Henry Marshall.

You've already heard about the most sensational lynchpin murder in the entire affair.

But there was more, many more.

And these murders themselves did not occur just because there were financial crimes

of the magnitude that we've described.

They came about as a result of the high stakes

political game that was on between the Kennedy clan and the Johnson clan. In this episode,

you'll hear how Kennedy attempted to use Estes as a tool in an attempt to get at Johnson. Yes,

the stakes were as high as they come. So stay at it with us in this

as this story was unfolding in the latter part of the prior year on October 18, 1961.

SDs met in Washington with Wilson Tucker, who was head of the Cotton Division at the USDA.

No matter how much SDs explained his problems to him, his blocked funds, the pending lots, Tucker was not receptive to any of Estes' arguments.

And then Estes, confusing Washington with Texas, as Raymond would explain, made a blunder by blurting

out. Do you know that a man has already paid the price of his laugh for those damn transfers?

The mention of Henry Marshall's death acted like an electroshock

on this USDA official. He understood that it was no longer a case of misuse of the law, but a criminal
