Summary
http://www.tropicalmba.com/portablebar/ We put Taylor Pearson in charge of our Portable Bar company in its infancy, and he helped us grow our business 527% in the first 18 months, to the point where we are consistently having healthy mid 5-figure months. This week, Bossman is back and we are chatting with Taylor about what it's like to evolve from a small business that is just keeping the lights on to a real significant source of wealth. We're talking about the old-school tactics we used to grow our business, and how we have used the advice that we give in this show in real life situations.

| 1:11.4 | It's the tropical MBA podcast. It's tropical in this room. If you could only see the look on Boss Man's face when I made him turn off the AC. I mean, he's angry. The only reason I did was because of the production value. I mean, other than that, it's going to take a day and a half for the AC to catch back up to what you've done to us right now. This week, we are at tropical MBA.com slash portable bar. We've got our good friend Taylor Pearson on the show. Can we get the applause effect? Just say hello to the audience, Taylor. You've been behind this podcast. You've actually edited it. Taylor's done everything. You've given us a lot of the stories that we presented on this show, |
| 1:16.7 | and here you are. I'm trying to feed the content machine. There's a lot coming out. It's got to get fed. |
| 1:22.3 | This week, you've got a product. You're making some sales, and now you've got to take that long road through the dip. We started working with Taylor, what, two years ago? Yep, last October. Two years ago. Two years ago. Oh, man. A long time. I remember the first time I talked to Taylor on my way to like a motorcycle race and we're all on a phone call. Taylor was like, can you not just send me something to, you know, let my parents know that this opportunity is legit? My mom was freaking out. She's like, these guys are going to take you to Thailand, and there's going to be lady boys, and it's all going to go bad. That's exactly how it went down. So when we first met you, we had this new business called the Portable Bar Company, and it was a baby company. We put you in charge of it, which was, you know, probably |
| 2:01.7 | something that we don't advise against. Hire somebody smart, put them in charge of something. |
| 2:05.0 | We're going to talk about how that process brought us to mid five figure months at our current. |
| 2:10.8 | So a healthy business on our hands. We're going to talk about what it's like to evolve from a |
| 2:16.7 | small business that's just |
| 2:17.5 | keeping the lights on to a real significant source of wealth for the founders. So if you stick |
| 2:22.6 | around for this episode, we're going to talk about the old school tactics we used, how we grew |
| 2:26.9 | 527%. It's not a typo in 18 months. Of course, we didn't start with very much, but I mean, |
| 2:33.3 | it's... Details. It looks good. Don't worry about the details. I think it's cool to see like how a lot of the advice on this show really kind of filters down into the businesses that we're actually running on a day-to-day basis. Sometimes it matches up. Sometimes it doesn't. We're going to kind of take a look at that and look at the history of the cold call in our business. Yeah, buddy. Get on the blower. Actually, we looked this up today. You said at lunch, you said, I gotta get on the blower, so we had to get on the Wikipedia page and figure out what that is. Turns out there was these things called speak tubes back of the day. You'd hear about that before the telephone. So you'd get on the blower and get your boss on there. You'd give people blows instead of giving them calls. Basically. Couple quick news items. Yeah, we're in Austin. We just wrapped up our DC event here in Austin. Taylor, how'd it go? You were there. Your review, sir. My review, quality of the people was fantastic. Lunch buffet was also fantastic. |
