One of the most amazing books that I have in my collection is a tiny little paperback,

written by Jay Evitz-Haley, a prolific author who wrote a book about Lyndon Johnson,

and today we will be borrowing much from it.

It's entitled, A Texan, looks at Lyndon.

Jay Evitz-Haley was a cowman and a historian. At the time that he wrote, A Texan looks at

Lyndon. He was already the author of 12 books of history and biography,

and he was one of the most notable living southwestern historians.

He ran for governor of Texas in 1956,

and in those moments the Houston Post would describe him as a man with a keen, incisive mind, a firm background in

history and government, and a lively understanding of the problems of the day. He was labeled

a salty Texas rebel from the staked plains by the Austin American statesman, dubbed the region's

Thomas Payne, a brilliant historian and a provocative

pamphleter. He was homegrown, a graduate of West Texas University and the University of Texas.

He would describe himself as a lifelong constitutional Democrat, a man who resided in Canyon, Texas. He was one of those men who saw it so
