There is a phenomenon out there in media.

Perhaps you've had some experience with it.

It's the true crime genre.

You know, true crime?

I actually watched a true crime documentary this weekend.

I don't do a ton of that, but I do some of it.

And I think one of the things that I'm interested in is the way in which the sort of true crime genre is different from actual detectives actually

solving real crimes. And as far as I can tell, not being, you know, a law enforcement person,

but, you know, knowing a little bit about that world. Here is the one thing that I think is way

different about sort of true crime podcast hosts and actual detectives.

The sort of true crime podcast host puts a lot of emphasis on so-called eyewitness testimony.

So-and-so said they saw blah, blah, blah.

This is like the big Netflix thing.

You've seen it, Amy What's Her Face, where, hey, maybe. This is like the big Netflix thing. You've seen it. Amy, what's her face?

Where, hey, maybe she's still alive because there's this picture on the internet that sort of vaguely

looks like her. Maybe she's still alive because of that. Eyewitnesses say they saw, blah, blah,

blah. True crime sort of feeds off of eyewitnesses say they saw.
