Paul DeCarli is a digital editor, programmer and producer based in Austin, Tx. He worked extensively on several Metallica projects including Live Shit: Binge and Purge, Load, Reload, Garage, Inc., and S&M. Paul has also worked with world renown artists such as Fleetwood Mac, KISS, Motley Crue, NIN, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, and Halestorm. In part 1 of our conversation with Paul, we learn about how he got into digital editing, his introduction into the Metallica camp, the technical details of his work on Binge and Purge, working with Bob Rock, the sea change between The Black Album and Load and a general history of recording and editing technology told through the lens of Metallica projects.
