Hey, welcome to the Happy Rand podcast.

I am Ted Cluck joined as always by my good friends and partners in radio, Barnabas Piper,

and Ronald J Martin. Boys, sad news,

earnestly for a minute in the world of Christian publishing in that Rachel Held Evans passed away this last Saturday, May 4th, last

Saturday for us as we record and I think it's not a stretch to say that this hit

this hit all three of us kind of hard and probably

harder than we anticipated that it might.

And yeah, I just want us to talk about that for a little bit. We, this podcast is definitely an entertainment vehicle first and foremost,

and we've had a lot of fun, really not even with her or with her ideas over the years,

just with the kind of the legend of her internet

battles with Trogs but yeah this was a sad one you know it was a it was a sad one I think

for just those of us who were in Christian publishing and

and those of us who are parents and younger and you know it just makes you think

about a lot of things and I think for me it was odd in that Rachel Held Evans was never more human to me than she

wasn't in death in the sense that I think in 2019 you get so used to dealing with people as just sort of

disembodied internet personas and you know it's it can be a stretch to think of

that persona as an actual person with kids and a husband and a life and yeah

it just kind of hit really hard on that level and I don't know you know it made me think a lot of things about reading and writing in

2019 and and I don't know the kind of work maybe that I want to do moving forward

but I'm curious to hear you guys speak into this a little bit and what

your thoughts were about it.
