The Senate could vote as early as today on a $1.7 trillion government funding bill.

The upper chamber voted last night to start consideration of an omnibus spending package

that would fund the government through September of next year.

The bill needs to pass before the end of the week to avoid a government shutdown.

Both parties are claiming they came out on top in the negotiations.

Through a lot of hard work, this package represents an aggressive and essential investment in

American families, American workers, and in our national defense.

It will give our troops a raise.
