This makes perfect sense, but not to most Americans, particularly those brainwashed by the Lincoln myth. If you believe in self-determination, then Taiwan should be independent, as should the Southern States. But this leads to the question, what constitutes legitimate government? If you celebrate July 4, then you should also believe that the Southern States had legitimate governments during the War. I discuss in this episode of The Brion McClanahan Show.
