Julian came into the world in the spring of 1963 in Liverpool, England, the son of John and Cynthia Lennon.

As a small boy he famously inspired the Beatles songs Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,

originally the name of a painting he did at nursery, Hey Jude, which Paul McCartney was moved to

write following John and Cynthia's separation, and White Album album closer Good Nice, which John wrote as a lullaby for Julian,

although of course it was Ringo who performed it on record.

Following his parents divorce in late 1968 Julian was raised by his mom and had something of a nomadic childhood

and adolescence living variously on the whirral and in North Wales, London and Italy, as well

as visiting his father in the US from time to time. He began playing guitar and drums around

the age of 10, later teaching himself piano, and made his recorded debut at the tender age of

11, playing drums on the track Yaw Yaw Yaw from his dad's 1974 album, Walls and Bridges.

Whilst the Kingsmee boarding school in Hoylake, our guest befriended fellow student and budding

guitarist Justin Clayton, who would go on to become one of his most significant musical collaborators.

The two were soon playing in a band together, making their live debut at a school concert in the mid-70s.
