Hello everyone and welcome to the Stephen King cast One Man's Musings on the Works of Stephen King.

Each week I will review one entry in the bibliography of Stephen King and the chronological order of publication.

And this week I'm talking about 2013's much-anticipated sequel to not only one of his most legendary novels,

but the source of an adaptation that has gone on to become

one of the most influential movies of all time, The Shining, the sequel being, the continuing

adventures of Danny Torrance, the now grown-up victim of the Overlook, ghosts, and domestic

abuse, who by the end of this novel will have journeyed from helpless young boy,

dr. man to the hero known as doctor sleep. Now this is a big moment in King's career. It takes

a brave man to go back and revisit characters that have been immortalized on page and on film.

So, I mean, this isn't, I mean, it's one thing for him to co-author a sequel, like he did with Peter Straub when they revisited the world of the talisman.

The talisman doesn't have that pop culture connection or baggage or legacy, if you will, that The Shining does.

And, you know, I mean, for everyone that liked the continuing adventures of rolling the gunslingers, I mean, the gunslinger, I mean, so the shine, everybody knows the shining. Everybody knows the shining.

Stephen King fans, non-Steven King fans, everybody knows the shining.

But, I mean, with something like the Dark Tower, I mean, even Stephen King fans don't know

or don't care about the Dark Tower.

So if King wrote 20 more books on the Dark Tower, there's a huge contingent of even Stephen

King fans that wouldn't care that much.

But The Shining is a whole other ballgame.

I mean, there's certain books that if he were to revisit would make major waves.

Carrie, I imagine that if he revisited the world of Kerry, that would be big.

If he went back to Christine, if he went back to Firestarter, if he went back to those core

classics that helped shape to stand it, you know, that helped shape who he was in the
