I think you can say on Saturday night that a brand new era for Georgia in this period of time

which Kirby Smart's been coached sort of began. Let me kind of explain it this way. Prior to this

season, I think there are three regular season games for Georgia that almost serve as like chapter breaks, kind of periods in time

where the narrative around Georgia football took a distinctively different turn. Let me kind of

rattle through these really quick and they'll set us up for what we're talking about today.

Think about Notre Dame on the road in 2017. You know, prior to that game in Kirby Smart's first season, you know, Georgia had kind of

been a continuation of what it had been for years prior to that.

Some good players, some great fans, a lot of hope, a lot of promise, but not quite making

good on all of that.

Yet when Georgia went on the road and there were those like 40-something thousand

Georgia fans who were there knowing the schedule that Georgia had in front of it that season,

beating Notre Dame, even though the Irish probably weren't a great team, really kind of made

you feel like, wow, maybe Georgia really can aspire to a level of greatness under Kirby Smart.

And that game against the Irish sort of started

all of that for UGA. And you know how the next few months would kind of roll when it came to that.

Then in 2019, after that kind of a period of ascension, Georgia lost to South Carolina at home in a game that frankly wasn't very pretty to watch.
