Summary

This is a long show!!

First off, we have Lily Gelfars, a listener who wanted to express her opinion regarding hiking in 2020. She brings some personal experience to her views, having decided to abandon her own 2020 hike on the Camino de Santiago. With a background that includes a SOBO hike of the Appalachian Trail in 2017, she shares her story.

She also gave me permission to share her letter/email to me; I'm sure you'll see why I wanted her on the show.

Bounce is now moving extremely fast, having said that he intended to slow down. Find out why.

Despite the length of the show, I didn't want to miss bringing Erin Mackenzie's amazing encounter to you. Believe me, it is a tale that will make you appreciate that we share the trails with wild animals.

Finally today, Keith Foskett's "Balancing on Blue" is our new book, about Keith's own AT journey. This week, he introduces his cast of characters.

Hi guys and welcome back to Mighty Blue on the Appalachian Trail, the ultimate midlife crisis, sponsored once more by Triple Crown Coffee.

And I think I may be having a bit of a midlife crisis myself this week, because this is going to be a very long show.

0:49.2

For some of you, I know that is exactly what you want to hear, but for others, you're going to be shouting at me to stop before the end.

So our main guest is actually a critic of the show. Well, more accurately, she's a listener who is a hiker and has a great personal hiking story. But she objected to me telling Kate's story in our woman of a certain age segment because she didn't agree that Kate should have been out there. And when I received a beautifully written email, I felt compelled to have her on the show

1:13.4

to not only tell us why she objected, she didn't agree that Kate should have been out there. And when I received her beautifully written

1:11.2

email, I felt compelled to have her on the show to not only tell us why she objected, but while

1:16.2

she was here, tell us about her hiking. As you've often heard me say before, I love the strong

independent women. Her name is Lily Galfars and Lily will be on soon. On the subject of people who shouldn't be out there, of course, I went straight from

1:29.6

Kate to Bouts.

1:31.1

If you recall last week, I mentioned that I thought bouncing quite down.

1:34.9

This week, you're going to learn why.

1:37.6

And after Bounce, because I really needed to extend an already long show, I've got a truly

1:42.8

amazing story from Erin McKenzie.

1:45.7

Erin was on the show very early in 2017, so quite a some time back.

1:49.9

If you haven't heard what happened to Erin, then you'll really want to hear this.

1:53.7

And finally today, there is the first chapter of our brand new book reading.

1:57.8

It's Keith Foskets balancing on blue and his personal Appalachian Trail story.

2:02.5

This week, Keith introduces his cast of characters. So, before we get on to all of that,

there's this. When I used to get up in the morning on the Appalachian Trail, I would have sacrificed

my first born for a good cup of coffee. Instant was a bit, I don't know, blah,
