One of the most important storylines on some of the best teams in the Kirby Smart era has been the preseason decision of veteran players to return.

And oftentimes when players who could have gone to the NFL, when they chose to stay at Georgia, all of a sudden there's a lot of magic that seems to happen because of that.

You remember all of this, but I'll give you a couple of quick reminders.

When it was primarily Nick Chubb and Sony Michelle in 2017, although you could also mention

Davin Bellamy and Lorenzo Carter, when they chose to come back to Georgia after the 2016 season,

when all of them could have gone to the NFL, especially in the case of Chubb and Michelle, there was a real energy and spark provided to Georgia

for that 2017 season. And it turned out to be Georgia's first ever trip to the college football

playoff, an SEC title breaking a long drought for UGA, and probably the most memorable

national semifinal game of all time in the

winning against Oklahoma. And all of that was at least in part propelled by Chubb, Michelle,

and to a lesser extent, Carter and Bellamy, their decisions to return. You fast forward a few

years later when Georgia broke through and won its first

national championship in more than 40 years. Guys like Jordan Davis and Devante Wyatt, once again,

players would eventually become first round picks, but they came back for that 2021 season. Much like

Chubb and Michelle prior to them, their decision to return ended up being a really big deal for Georgia.

So now we sit here on the doorstep of the start of the 2024 season.

We're left to wonder, could some veteran players and their decision to come back for one more year,

could it once again end up being a real big deal for UGA?
